Need to reach everyone at once, no matter where they are on the canvas? Host Audio Broadcast works like a PA system—it overrides zones, spatial falloff, and breakouts so your voice (or a quick announcement) reaches every participant instantly.
This is a host-only control—not available to regular facilitators. Open it from the broadcast icon in the bottom video-control bar.
Starting a Voice Broadcast
- Click the broadcast icon in the video control bar.
- Choose Use voice.
The room fades down first so the switch isn't jarring, then your mic—and your screen-share audio, if you're sharing—plays to every participant at full volume, regardless of the audio mode or zone they're in.
Only one host can broadcast at a time. If someone else is already broadcasting, the button shows that and won't let you start a second one.
To stop, tap the broadcast icon again.
Sending a Text Announcement
The same control also handles quick text announcements, for moments that don't need your voice:
- Pick a preset message (like "We're starting now" or "5 minutes left"), or
- Type a custom message into the free-text box
Kolab remembers your recent messages, so reusing a common announcement is one click away.
What Participants See
During a voice broadcast, participants see a banner at the top of their screen showing your name, a live "on air" indicator, and a voice-level meter.
For a text announcement, the banner shows the message itself, then dismisses automatically after a few seconds (longer messages stay up a bit longer).
Participants can locally mute an active voice broadcast or dismiss an announcement banner—this only affects their own view and doesn't interrupt the broadcast for anyone else.
