FOR FACILITATORS

Auto-Zoom

Automatic canvas navigation that follows audio zones

Auto-zoom automatically navigates participants to their audio zone when they enter it, reducing confusion and keeping everyone focused on relevant content.

Note: Auto-zoom is available in Interactive (Spatial) mode when using Zoned audio.

What Auto-Zoom Does

When a participant enters an audio zone:

  1. System detects zone entry
  2. Canvas view automatically pans and zooms
  3. Participant immediately sees the zone content

Why This Matters

Without auto-zoom:

Participant joins Team A zone → Still viewing random canvas area → Must manually search → Wastes time, misses context

With auto-zoom:

Participant joins Team A zone → View automatically shows Team A area → Immediately oriented, ready to participate

Enabling Auto-Zoom

Space-Level Setting

  1. Open Space Settings (gear icon in the control bar)
  2. Look for Auto-Zoom toggle
  3. Enable or disable for the entire space

Note: This setting only appears when in Interactive mode.

Board-Level Override

Individual boards can override the space setting:

SettingEffect
Use space defaultFollows the space-level setting
Enable (force on)Auto-zoom always enabled on this board
Disable (force off)Auto-zoom always disabled on this board

Configure this in board settings when creating or editing a board.

When Auto-Zoom Applies

Auto-zoom works specifically with Zoned audio mode:

Audio ModeAuto-Zoom
GlobalNot applicable (no zones)
SpatialNot applicable (proximity-based)
ZonedAuto-zoom applies when entering zones

When you switch to Zoned audio and a participant enters a zone boundary, auto-zoom navigates their view to that zone.

Manual Navigation

Even with auto-zoom enabled, participants can always:

  • Pan manually - Click and drag to move around
  • Zoom manually - Scroll or pinch to zoom
  • Navigate freely - Explore the full canvas

Auto-zoom triggers on zone entry but doesn't lock the view.

Canvas Design Tips

For effective auto-zoom, design your canvas with clear zones:

  • Visible boundaries - Use shapes with distinct colors
  • Adequate spacing - Leave room between zones
  • Consistent sizing - Similar zones should be similar sizes
  • Content inside zones - Place relevant content within zone boundaries

Example layout:

         ┌─────────────┐
         │ STAGE │
         │ (Main) │
         └─────────────┘

    ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐ ┌───────┐
    │TEAM A │ │TEAM B │ │TEAM C │
    └───────┘ └───────┘ └───────┘

Troubleshooting

"Auto-zoom not working"

  1. Verify you're in Interactive mode
  2. Verify Zoned audio is selected
  3. Check auto-zoom is enabled in space settings
  4. Confirm audio zone boundaries are properly configured

"Participants getting lost"

  1. Make zone boundaries more visible
  2. Use contrasting colors for different zones
  3. Add text labels near zones
  4. Enable auto-zoom if disabled

"Zoom level is wrong"

  • Adjust zone sizes on the canvas
  • Larger zones = wider zoom view
  • Test from participant perspective before session

Best Practices

For Facilitators

  1. Test before sessions - Enter zones as a participant to verify behavior
  2. Announce zone changes - "Move to your team's zone to continue"
  3. Give orientation time - Pause after zone transitions

For Canvas Design

  1. Design for auto-zoom - Zones should look good when zoomed to
  2. Leave breathing room - Don't cram content to zone edges
  3. Test on multiple devices - Desktop and mobile may differ
